Keep checking back, sometimes I update. Got anything to add?
Hi folks of /austin! I just spent the weekend in your fine city with the ladyfriend and I want to come back as soon as possible. Coming from San Francisco, I thought we had a great bar and food truck scene, but we're amateurs when compared to you guys! We ate some delicious tacos at Torchy's, the Don Jaun taco at Juan in Million, batini's at the Driskill, and more! The highlight of the trip was probably how we rolled up to Franklin's BBQ at about 3pm on Saturday and found about 10 people in line. As soon as we got in they put up the Sold Out sign on the door. They were out of ribs and we had literally just eaten at Torchy's, but we wanted to at least check out Franklin's, not expecting to get anything since we were so late, but we were given close to 2lbs of brisket, 4 sausages, a sandwich, a side of beans, and 2 desserts all for about $25. I asked for 1/2lbs of brisket, a sandwich, and a sausage, but got all of that instead. This food changed my life and I didn't know that brisket could be that fucking incredible. Saturday night we strolled around the dirty six to see what it was all about and have to admit had a great time there, even with all of the Bros and their Bro-ey-ness emanating all around us. We're 27 and 25 and are pretty much over the whole "college party" scene at this point, but we still had a blast rolling around the street smoking cigarettes and going from bar to bar with all of the shenanigans. Sunday morning we drove our rental car down to San Antonio to check out the Alamo but not before getting the greatest breakfast tacos of our lives at Juan in a Million. Seriously those things were incredible and kept me full until dinner time at like 9pm. For Dinner we went to Paul Qui's food truck behind Whistler's while enjoying some tasty cocktails from the bar. God damn that waterfall pork was spicy, yet so, so delicious. The bread with peanut sauce was some of the best peanut sauce I've ever had the privilege of shoveling down my throat. We left early this morning on a 7am flight back to SF, but we had to end last night back on 6th at Casino el Camino getting some glorious Verde Chili fries. I was told they're the bees knees and god damn, they were. The guys in the kitchen there were super chill and apparently liked my SF hat so much they gave me them for only $4 instead of the normal $6.25. Then while reloading our drinks at the bar a friendly patron offered me the second half of his burger because "it's so good and I am so fucked up and I want you to experience this". He told me "oh I know it's sort of weird that I am, you know, offering you half my food like this but trust me". I obliged and holy shit that was a great burger. Who would have thought such great food could come from this type of a place! I LOVE dive bars and this one is got to be one of my favorites. So yeah, I LOVE Austin and I can't wait to come back again. If I lived there though I am pretty sure I'd have to run 10ks 3-5 days a week or else I'd blow up to about 500lbs.
