HOW TO BUY, STORE, TRANSFER AND MAKE MONEY OUT OF CRYPTO
Well, I have been trying to write this from long but my current job was not allowing this. Luckily I left the job and all the miseries associated with it. Anyway, Just a little background, I am an ex-banker and been in crypto from past few years; Have seen ups and downs, pumps and dumps, all the HODL MOON and rekt, and what not. Lately, I am getting lot of requests from people asking about cryptocurrencies or Bitcoin in general. So, I am writing a fully fledged guide here on how you buy, store, transfer and make money out of cypto; Last part is very subjective though..hahah. Just to be clear, I will focus more on providing relevant resources to learn rather than bullshitting my own advise.
Why Crypto?
Biggest question is why one should ever buy crypto. why one should spend money on something that they can't even touch or feel. Well, before answering that, let me tell you that we do not live in an Utopia. We live around mean and selfish people, corrupt politicians, filthy rich people who wants to control and peek into every aspect of our life. And Our current system consists lot of intermediaries which result into extra cost, time and chances of fraud. Bitcoin just came to get rid of such people. It works on a decentralized mechanism where we cut the middleman or centralized institutions out of the system and transfers the trust from humans to computers(nodes), rendering the chances of error and fraud while offering secure and seamless transactions. Imagine sending millions of dollars from one country to other in real time with fees as low as few dollars. Not to mention, payment is only one use out of thousands that the underlying technology of crypto-currencies blockchain offers. Besides, in terms of investments, it has outperformed every other asset class imaginable in the last decade.
If you want to dig deeper into technological aspect of bitcoin, there is free online course by Princeton University on youtube- Princeton-Bitcoin

Now that you know bitcoin and how it works, how do you become part of this revolutionary currency. There are crypto exchanges in almost all the countries and it's easy to buy from your native currency-I am going to list some of India's most popular exchanges:-
Wazirx
( Signup- wazirx.com ) Well, this is my personal favorite. CEO Nischal Shetty is an amazing person. It was the only exchange that was running during the hard times of 2018 when RBI brought circular prohibiting Banks to provide services to individuals or any company dealing in crypto-currencies, especially exchanges. Started it's legendary P2P service during the ban and soon outperformed the every other exchange in terms of users and trading volume in India. Ban was removed and wazirx emerged as a unconquered champion. Currently Wazirx is acquired by Binance and leading as biggest crypto-currency exchange in India. Step by step guide to sign up- wazirx guideHow to deposit INR- Wazirx deposits
Binance
( Signup- Binance.com ) Binance requires no introduction. It's the biggest crypto currency exchange in the world in terms of trading volume. CEO Chengpeng zhao is a visionary person and is one of the fastest person to become Bllionaire on face of the Earth. It has also launched its p2p trading service in India where people can buy major cryptocurrencies through INR. Without a shadow of doubt, it's the most trustworthy and credible exchange out there. It also offers various other products including Margin trading, futures & options, staking and other investment instruments. Won't be wrong to say, it's a complete crypto ecosystem on it's own. Not to mention, native exchange token BNB( used to save fees) has skyrocketed 150 times from $0.5 in 2017 to $75 recently. Educate yourself with binance- Binance Acadamy
Zebpay
( Signup - Zebpay.com ) Zebpay is one of the oldest crypto exchange in India. Started back in 2015, it used to be one of the most popular exchange in India. Although they ran away with their bag and baggage in 2018 after the govt. regulations but they got back in business recently. Well, Zebpay is not my first choice but it's still better than some other shady exchanges. Besides they have a decent looking app with easy interface. Not to mention, having an account on multiple exchanges might come handy in a situation of arbitrage. Indian exchanges tend to provide lot of such opportunities ,especially in days of volatility. Step by step guide- Starting with Zebpay
p2p Exchanges
singnup- Localbitcoins.com There are people basically who don't trust exchanges and rather prefer to trade more privately. On LocalBitcoins, you are dealing with humans. Unlike centralized Bitcoin trading websites, LocalBitcoins allows you to trade directly with another person. It allow users to create advertisements where they can choose the payment method like CASH/PAYTM/IMPS/NEFT and their own exchange rate for buying and selling bitcoins from and to other LocalBitcoins users. LBTC acts as an Escrow and protects both buyer and seller by keeping the bitcoins safe until the payment is done and the seller releases bitcoins to the buyer. This is very popular among Tax evaders..lol! Just an tip, always choose a safe public place when dealing in cash. Before moving further, you should be aware of public and private keys at-least. Public key- It's large string of alpha numeric key that you use to receive funds. It's called a public key, simply because it is meant to be shared publicly and enable you to receive funds. Private key- A private key is a sophisticated form of cryptography that allows a user to access his/her cryptocurrency.
How to store crypto currencies:-
1. Exchange Wallet
This is most widely used and convenient method of storing crypto. You buy from exchange, you let it stay there, sounds very easy. Only downside here is that it is risky. As the history dictates, exchanges are no immune to cyber attacks and there were instances of fraud and robbery with mainstream crypto exchanges like Mt-gox, Bitfinex, Bitgrail, DAO, upbit, where billions of dollars worth of bitcoin were stolen by hackers. So, it really make sense to look for safer alternatives, isn't it? There is saying in crypto, You own your bitcoin only when you have access to your private keys, and in this case, exchanges have it. Although, Exchange wallets poses incredible convenience if you're an active trader and don't want to get into hassle of transefering crypto back n forth. Most reliable Exchange wallets- Coinbase( works under SEC regulations) Binance(more suitable for altcoins) just my 2 cents, always have your 2fa enabled for withdrawls.
2. Hardware wallets
This is one of the safest way of storing crypto-currencies. Hardware wallet is basically a USB device which saves the private keys securely in an offline manner. It has serious advantage among others because it never allows your private keys to come in contact with internet connected computer or any vulnerable software or attack. Ledger and trezor are some of the most reliable and popular brands, you can also look for Mycelium and Electrum. Ledger-https://shop.ledger.com/products/ledger-nano-s trezor-https://shop.trezor.io/
3. Paper wallet
The idea of a paper wallet is very simple. You set up a wallet offline while following some simple instructions and then you simply print out the private and public keys in a piece of paper. The keys will also be printed in the form of a QR code which you can scan in order to get access to your funds. If you use your crypto fairly regular, go for hardware wallet. However, if you are planning to just store your funds for a long time without much interference, then, without a shadow of a doubt, paper wallet is the way to go. There are two paper wallet sites that we would like you to check out: Walletgenerator.net MyEtherWallet.com
How to transfer crypto from one exchange to another:-
Well, it's the simplest part considering you don't do any mistakes. To transfer any cryptocurrency all you require is the destination wallet address (deposit address). No matter which exchange you wish to transfer your funds to; the exchange will provide you with the receiving address. Make sure that you’ve copied the right address of the coin that you are looking to transfer. Sending coins to a wrong address will result in loss of coins and you have to depend on mercy of exchange to get your coins back. In general here are the steps to transfer coins from Exchange A to Exchange B. 1)Go to Exchange B and head to Funds >> Deposits / Withdrawal section. 2)Choose the coin and copy the deposit(receiver) address provided by the exchange. 3)Now come back to Exchange A and head to Deposits / Withdrawal section. 4)Choose your coin that you are looking to withdraw. Then paste the recipient address that you copied from Exchange B. 5)Next enter amount to send and click withdraw. Now you’ll be asked to complete the validation process. It can be either OTP/2FA or email verification depending on what you chose for your account security. Once this step is complete your coins will be sent to Exchange B.
Ways to make money out of crypto:-
HODL
Most easiest way to make money in crypto is simply buy and forget you ever had bought anything. HODL or Hold On for Dear Life is coined for long term investors who beleive in underlying technology and won't sell until the mainstream adoption. It's not just a notion, actually it holds a strong premise. Speaking of which, no one has ever lost money by holding crypto in long term. It's the most volatile market ever existed and can drive people nuts, but only the visionary people with strong will power gonna survive in this mayhem. God bless panic sellers and faint hearted people, bruh this market is not for you. you bought the peak of 2013? no problem, it made another one in 2017. Now you bought at 20k and crying over your miserable life, no issues it doubled again in 2020. If you really believe in a decentralized society where no one else controlling your money but you , then you're a true hodler.
Trading crypto
Well, this is tricky and I won't suggest you to jump into this right away. As the trading is slightly different from conventional markets and highly influenced by sentiments, news & events, supply ,adoption, unlike other markets where fundamental and technical analysis plays a major role. It might as well seem a bit confusing initially but believe me this market offers plethora of opportunities, only if you have the patience and determination to find any . I will try to enlist some steps that can come handy in the process. 1) Picking an Exchange- It should have the maximum trading pairs with highest liquidity. Binance certainly rings a bell in this category. It's way ahead of it's competition. Some of the major trading exchanges:-
Binance
Bittrex
Kucoin
Huobi
Bitfinex
Wazirx-Indian
2) Finding an information source :- It's imperative to have information about the coin before jumping into the buying spree. It really boosts the confidence and prevent panic selling in days of bloodbath. Not necessarily to become a blockchain expert here but fundamental knowledge of the premise behind a coin, need it serves, supply and knowing about it's use case would suffice. Listing some of the major information source:-
Coinmarketcap - It's a go to place for all the crpto information. A website where you can find information on every coin and token available. The data includes market capitalization, supply, trade volume etc. It also show you the historical data and a link to the official website of the coin. So the site can even be used for cryptocurrency comparisons.
Coindesk - One of the major crypto news source. Cover all news around bitcoin and aother cryptocurrencies. Be it events, adoption or a recent rally, coindesk writers will always keep you updated.
Coinmarketcal- CoinMarketCal is the leading economic calendar for cryptocurrency news. It covers all events that help crypto traders make better decisions. There are events in a coin life like supply decrease, coin burn, major partnership, product releases that could have imapct on its price action. So, coinmarketcal lists out all such events and allow traders to speculate on price around these events. Kryptocal is another website for the same purpose.
Reddit- Without a shadow of doubt, it's a great place to find information and hangout with people having mutual investment interest. Every coin have their official subreddits (can find the link from coinmarketcap) where people talk and post about the things happening around the cryptocurrency. Just to let you know, sentiments plays a major role in deciding the price for a given cryptocurrency. Positive sentiments alone could take a coin to MOON. Look what happened to GME and XRP.
Twitter- Since the price is highly influenced by the news, Twitter would definetely keep you up to date. All the crypto currencies, exchanges and their Founders have Twitter handles where they post about all the major updates including partnerships, new releases, upgrades, personal opinions and what not. Always turn on the notification for the coin you're trading. No matter what strategy you were building, a single tweet from their founder can change it's price action beyond imagination. Doge is the most recent example for this correlation. A single tweet from Elon Musk took the coin price up 50% in minutes.
Now, just a tip- Don't chase pumps and dumps. They might look fascination from the surface but beleive me, it's a slippery slope. If you entered at the bottom, then it's well n good, otherwise just be a spectator.
Passive income from crypto
Staking- Staking is the most simple way to earn passive income, as the market pays you for holding cryptocurrencies for a certain period of time. Let me explain you this a bit. All blockchains have one thing in common: transactions need to get validated. Bitcoin for example does this in a process called mining which is known to use a lot of electricity (Proof-of-Work). There are other methods that are used for validation. Proof-of-Stake (PoS) is one such consensus mechanism where people get decesion power in the network by staking coins. By staking , you gain the ability to vote and generate an income. It is quite similar to how someone would receive interest for holding money in a bank account or giving it to the bank to invest. There are plenty of coins to stake with variable rate of interest. Checkout- https://www.binance.com/en/pos
Airdrops, forks, and buybacks- Airdrops-This is cheapest or free way to earn money from crypto. The concept of airdrop refers to the widespread distribution of cryptocurrency in free to the public in order to gain the userbase. Recently Binance airdropped 100 TWT tokens for all the holders which is around 50 usd as of now. Even the popular coin TRX was given as airdrop which now worth in thousands of USD. You can keep track of Airdrops here:- https://airdrops.io/
Hardfork- Hardfork happens on blockchain. Sometimes it's hard to put an update on existing chain due to the lack of consensus. So developers split a totally different chain and investor receives equivalent holdings on the new chain. (it’s like benefitting from an error). Ethereum classic forked from Ethereum. BCH for example is the biggest of it's kind, which is forked from the Bitcoin and given as free in same amount to people as per their Bitcoin holdings. They keep happening from time to time and even have positive impact on price action.
Buybacks or coin burn- It means a cryptocurrency is bought to be destroyed or ‘burnt’ afterward. It decreases the supply and hence directly increasing the price. Basically it was brought to adjust with the inflation. BNB coin burn is the classic example. Read here- coin burn
So that's it guys, hope you've learned something here and wish you good luck in your crypto pursuit. And feel free to drop any questions or suggestions.

Frequent merchant offers on Amazon, Flipkart, PaytmMall
The BMS/INOX offer previously was very good (1+1 on tickets) but now that has changed based on cards. The current offer is okay considering similar offers are generally available for Amazon Pay and PayZapp apps. Also, the previous 1+1 could be booked only on specific time due to limited slots. Not sure it still applies. Lounge One complimentary access per quarter on Lounge covered by Visa Platinum Fuel A complete waiver of 1% on fuel surcharge every time you refuel - The offer is valid on a maximum spend of ₹ 4000 per transaction at all HPCL pumps. To avail of the offer, payment should be made by swiping the card on ICICI Merchant Services swipe machines only. Charges I got this card lifetime free, without any Joining or Annual fees. I see it being periodically being offered for free. Regular joining fees is Rs 500 + GST and annual fees of Rs 500 + GST. Annual fees is waived on expenditure of Rs 150000 in a year. Bottom Line The low rates and high redemption fees makes this card and the entire Aquatic Series disappointing. The only reason I have this card is because it is free and has a lot of merchant offers. Another benefit of having this card is you have a higher change of being eligible for the much more attractive Amazon Pay ICICI card (review upcoming). If you get this card for free, take it for merchant offers but not as your primary. You are losing real money while redeeming reward points which is ridiculous.

Paypal was an early COVID investing pick due to its nature of contactless payments and its rise in young populations with Venmo. Paypal has a storied history, founded by some of the most influential Silicon Valley VC’s and entrepreneurs they started as two smaller companies founded in the middle of the tech bubble (1998 and 1999) as Confinity and X.com by Peter Thiel and Elon Musk. They were able to weather the storm of the 2000 tech fallout by being bought out by eBay for $1.5B beforehand. Under eBay, Paypal grew their services into what most of us know them for: digitized payments. Starting from effortless check transfers for unauthorized vendors to working their way to B(!)tcoin, Paypal has made it more convenient for payments to be processed, and in our consumerist economy that’s an absolute goldmine. Square is a relatively new player in the digital transaction space but they’ve had quite a run up this year under the leadership of Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter. Their first product was a card reader that fit into the headphone jack of smartphones, so naturally Square expanded into the enterprise services market and continued developing solutions for small businesses like payroll management. I’ll further discuss the respective structures of both companies in this due diligence The Expansion of Digital Transactions Paper currency has been the standard means of exchange for ages, but the digital method of exchange, particularly mobile exchanges has now become far more convenient. In 2017, digital payments were expected to reach a market value of $726B in 2020, and here we are post covid with the value of digital payments at over 910B. https://preview.redd.it/mr9elex5z0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=18e6eb1b9039d738af6c2ea5277018d2749cbbfd Statista forecasts that most of the sales growth for digitized payments past 2020 will come from mobile POS, and that most of the user growth for digitized payments will also be in peer-to-peer transactions. Paypal has both bases covered with Venmo when it comes to mobile transactions and it has E-Commerce covered with its major retailer partnerships and with eBay. Square has Cash app, which is a peer-to-peer payments app plus they also have in-person small business products for digital payments like their “cash register” called the Square Stand which is useful for freelancing professionals and small businesses. So a pro of Square is that it has a far more established presence in the growing sector of digital payments which is mobile POS payments, not E-Commerce. However, E-Commerce is the much larger sector by users alone: https://preview.redd.it/x99o8v39z0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=c12fa73d91b1948acec47fe715cdefe8b4bfb3bb
As you can see, mobile POS payments are expected to triple in the same time that E-commerce will grow by around 20%.
This makes a lot of sense to me as E-Commerce still makes up a small amount of all transactions and its trajectory is very much fixed and established now. POS payments are definitely growing though, as on my last trip to India, one of the fastest growing countries, I observed that every small business had a PayTM barcode for transactions, and this is where both Paypal and especially Square will eventually expand to. CNBC also forecasts most digital payment growth will happen in emerging markets (which is why I’ll suggest an ETF at the end which incorporates emerging market companies) “Emerging markets are expected to grow at a rate three times that of developed economies in terms of digital transaction volumes. Digital payments in developing markets grew 21.6 percent between 2014 and 2015, compared to a 6.8 percent rise in mature markets. Non-cash payments in Asian emerging markets are projected to grow by almost a third (30.9 percent), led by powerhouses China and India”. According to CNBC analysts though, cash will still remain supreme for the following reasons: speed of exchange, universal acceptance, anonymity, absence of record and free of charge. Anonymity and absence of record are things that are being fixed by the incorporation of cr(!)ptocurrency into transactions, but it’s likely the biggest reason people don’t switch to cashless is because not all merchants use it and the fees add up especially for many transactions a day for the merchants. Eventually when the digital transaction economy grows fully, there will be enough competitors to offer sellers competitive rates to a point where they’ll choose mobile payments for the convenience it provides in terms of not having to use physical cash but as of now only small businesses are willing to make the opportunity cost of losing fees so they don’t have to store cash. Paypal Paypal is “a global, two-sided network at scale that connects merchants and consumers with 305 million active accounts (consisting of 281 million consumer active accounts and 24 million merchant active accounts) across more than 200 markets. PayPal helps merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online, on a mobile device, in an app, or in person”. They have a variety of new products in development as they have made several acquisitions since their establishment. Paypal offers merchants a technology-agnostic platform that requires no hardware and little time to set up with its Braintree product which is primarily for online sellers and iZettle which is used for POS payments primarily in international markets and they have a user base of 19 million. This acquisition was made with the full intention of competing with Square and since Paypal has had an extremely talented eye for acquisitions in the past in Xoom and Venmo, this relatively new acquisition has a lot of potential, but it could also just be a last minute scramble to catch up to Square’s huge market share in POS payment offerings. Paypal has a great P2P ecosystem in Venmo and Xoom and a credit partnership with Synchrony bank as well which helps diversify revenue streams. Paypal also owns a company called GoPay, which basically provides the same services Paypal does but in China, which expands them into a market that’s more likely to grow in the future. https://preview.redd.it/w3vmknzbz0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=23c083f35611ffa86a997cf3a9f75a7c29de7a9f As you can see, Paypal has some pretty consistent revenue, profit, and EBITDA growth, but a bit more concerning may be the fact that margins have been relatively stable and they haven’t been increasing at all. I believe the reason for this is because PayPal’s full potential isn’t close to being realized, and even founder Peter Thiel said in his book “Zero to One” that Paypal wouldn’t start realizing a majority of their cash flows until 2020. https://preview.redd.it/78wifzfdz0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=9bce649ad199031a1c5ddbfbdb663324b7ae3454 While Paypal was able to increase earnings per share by a strong 21% from 2018 to 2019, they decreased cash flows from operating activities by 17% from 2018. This requires that we go into the capital expenditures in their CF statement, which will provide a clearer idea of why and how Paypal lost cash flow despite rising net income. Another thing standing out may be the fact that the operating margin is pretty constant, which can be a concerning sign for investors seeking a growth stock. Plus, considering how much the price for PYPL has run up in the past few months you’d expect better profitability to come with it hand-in-hand. But the future being factored into Paypal isn’t based on its face value, or else the price would be very stagnant right now and it wouldn’t have grown nearly as much as it has. Here’s what I mean: https://preview.redd.it/47r8msvez0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=2cefbcab0e52e1a1ca9e42b946f569f4a1595785 The amount of profit Paypal can squeeze out of its main product is pretty much at a maximum as transaction expenses are growing at the same rate as revenues are and operating expenses are still going up at a somewhat proportional rate to that of net income, meaning that no more value is going to come out of the existing product. While the existing product is still going to grow in popularity, its profitability is only going to decrease or stagnate as Paypal expands into developing markets that aren’t willing to cough up as much in fees. As Thiel himself puts it, that’s “horizontal innovation” AKA just globalism. That alone isn’t enough to justify the investment levels in Paypal, but investments and acquisitions into the future of transactions will expand it, and on top of this it is only recently Paypal has experienced such tremendous growth in cash flows YoY. Now you’ll see below PYPL’s historic cash flows, and if you go to the bottom you’ll see their free cash flow decreased from 2018 to 2019 as I previously mentioned. The root cause of this is investment purchases, which increased by $5B in 2019 and contributed to the Free Cash Flow decreasing by 800M. Again, if we look at Paypal’s track record when it comes to acquisitions they’ve been very successful, so there’s not much reason to expect much different this time around. If Paypal’s investing, investors are excited. They’ve piled up cash up until last year, and they’re finally using it now based off their cash per share: https://preview.redd.it/rq6x4g8kz0561.png?width=387&format=png&auto=webp&s=976d294dbc9ceb68d288570648b9a894fde8c1ac https://preview.redd.it/jh21m90lz0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=b77b71f08785127aea6cad5afa30e6ff37f78f11 https://preview.redd.it/z2kkuyilz0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=3dc69e6a4ecd333adf5c3e9fa851a266473fe4ec Add to this the tremendous increase in digital payment volume in the past year and we can expect a real change in the entire sector’s trajectory. Hedge funds have been piling up on this supposed legacy company for a valid reason: their time for expansion is now, and COVID-19 has only spurred in realizing this perfect storm, as net income and revenue has seen a jump in the past two quarters: https://preview.redd.it/v4cgyl1nz0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=272965de645fa1a9aac0ff763863cc28e7942035 So you must be wondering why Paypal’s cash from operations was down in 2019 from 2018, but in their most recent 10k Paypal explained cash from operations and free cash flow was only down due to “positive impact of $1.4 billion of changes in loans and interest receivable, held for sale, net following the sale of our U.S. consumer credit receivables portfolio” which was added into the operating income as it was a noncash expense and that’s why 2019 looks down about $1B in cash even though operating income for 2019 was up $0.4B: https://preview.redd.it/7i979ldoz0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=798113837df594aa112574facc98df32685c8c79 Paypal’s newly acquired capital is already being used and it’ll be put to good use based on the meteoric rise in transactions in the past two years. Contactless payments will eventually become a norm and their established e-commerce platform will set them up pretty well on this end. Now to address the flip side of the coin: POS or Point of Sale transactions, which is a market Square has wrapped around its finger as it’s had the head start since the iPhone 4. Here’s how Square got started, instead of giving 10$ to people for using their product, founder and CEO Jack Dorsey (who also is the founder and CEO of Twitter) gave them the product for free and built an infrastructure around it. It was simply a credit card scanner that could be inserted into the headphone jack of a smartphone. This simple product is still being sent out for free to small businesses and the software and business model that surrounded this tiny card reader has expanded like a wildfire since then. Square would collect 2.75% on each payment similar to Paypal. Square also made a “cash management” app, Cash App to dive into a non-retail market. About Cash App: “Cash App provides an ecosystem of financial products and services to help individuals manage their money. While Cash App started with the single ability to send and receive money, it now provides an ecosystem of financial services that allows individuals to store, send, receive, spend, and invest their money.” It appears as if Square is trying to become an all-round player in the consumer and producer financial ecosystem as Cash App has become more like a bank or brokerage account rather than just a P2P service like Paypal or Zelle. Now, Cash App makes 25% of SQ’s revenues. In Square’s 2019 annual report, they reported the following: In the year ended December 31, 2019, we processed $106.2 billion of Gross Payment Volume (GPV), which was generated by nearly 2.3 billion card payments from 407 million payment cards. At the end of 2019, our Square point of sale ecosystem had over 180 million buyer profiles and approximately 230 million items were listed on Square by sellers. As of December 2019, Cash App had approximately 24 million monthly active customers who had at least one cash inflow or outflow during a given month. The above image shows Square’s payment volume distribution across different industries, and as you can see in 2019 payment volume was very diverse which bodes well for SQ’s stability. This shows the increasing size of sellers who use Square, and this shows that Square’s mission of making small businesses big and having them stick to their product regardless of their stage in growth is working. Although their main business is in processing payments, Square is making itself a fin-tech institutional force with 30 different API’s for retail and e-commerce sellers along with invoicing, appointment, payroll, loyalty/gift card, and account management services. Square also has financing for small businesses in Square Capital, which I find to be the most interesting part of their model. They give small loans to businesses based on the data that they already have as Square manages the business’ finances, remember? And this puts them at an advantage to make good debt because of the transparency into the business’ finances. This will allow Square to make extremely profitable and high turnover loans that have virtually NO risk of default. The types of loans they give are generally small, and they could be as little as $500. They describe these loans as the type you’d ask for from your parents or relatives. Square has such in-depth data from these businesses that when they make loans they don’t even consider credit scores: “Generally, for loans to Square sellers, loan repayment occurs automatically through a fixed percentage of every card transaction a seller takes. Loans are sized to be less than 20% of a seller’s expected annual GPV (their payment volume) and, by simply running their business, sellers repay their loan in eight to nine months on average” Since 2014, Square has made over $6B in loans with a failure rate of only 4%, which makes sense because Square has access to all of its client’s financials so therefore they possess the ability to make fully transparent loans. When you jump into Square’s financials, there’s a lot of promise to say the least: https://preview.redd.it/a4zkobuvz0561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=35c1273cb128c0d627add76e54bb36a9b34941a1 Not only has revenue grown by 42% from 2018 to 2019, net income finally became positive in 2019 and free cash flow increased from 232m to 400m in the same span. Here’s the revenue breakdown for Square, and as you can observe while transaction revenue saw much stronger compared to Paypal, the real deal was Square’s expansion of its enterprise solutions as those revenues increased by 74% last year, these are revenues recognized as the following: “Revenue from Cash App, Square Capital, and Instant Transfers for sellers currently comprise the majority of our subscription and services-based revenue. Cash App subscription and services-based revenue is primarily comprised of transaction fees from Cash App Instant Deposit and Cash Card. Our other subscription and services-based products include website hosting and domain name registration services, Gift Cards, Square Appointments, Customer Engagement, Employee Management, Payroll, Square Card, and other product offerings.” B(!)tcoin revenues from Cash App investing whose revenues increased by 210% (in this case B(!)tcoin is an asset that Square owns and sells to those using Cash App to invest in cr(!)ptocurrency.) https://preview.redd.it/6krvne7101561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=87bb78977eaa222762e5f24f5061651850ad74e5 Also in that same span, Square’s cash has nearly doubled. This liquidity will be necessary as Square Capital continues to grow and will require financing. https://preview.redd.it/0b3gxlr201561.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=068b3f2d994b04f67fd2ad5c6de629851dd658ae Observing some long term trends now for $SQ: Lower SG&A expenses per $ of revenue Low receivables/sales despite expansion of Square capital because revenue has grown so fast Increasing return on equity (higher net profit margins and leverage) Consistently increasing free cash flow points to stability (especially since 2019 turned positive) While Square is far riskier than Paypal, they seem to be capturing a much larger market and have a bigger vision for the future at this point. Paypal becomes more like Microsoft and Square is kind of like Apple if we went back 10 years. One of them has widespread use and an established platform but still has consistent growth (about 15%) and the other is finding itself in a competitive market but is also slowly establishing absolute dominance. Square is absolutely overvalued, but for a growth stock that’s nothing out of the ordinary, and so is Paypal considering they don’t have nearly as much a prospect for growth unless leadership shows a huge change in direction some time soon. The “Paypal Mafia” however has surprised us before and I think there’s a solid chance of growth still plausible for them. Regardless, both of these companies should be a holding in your portfolio amidst a growing FinTech sector and a huge transition away from traditional payments. Increasing level of frauds and scams on platforms like OLX
Hello Guys, I'm new to reddit, and joined after seeing the kind of energy here. So recently while browsing through my feed i came across the OLX fraud thing where the scammer would show interest in buying something from you, won't negotiate much, and send you a QR code. As soon as you scan the QR code and enter UPI pin( UPI pin is anyways not required for receiving payments, but people still do that anyways in this case), booom! Your bank account debited. Heard about this from multiple sources. So I went ahead to investigate this myself. Put some old stuff on sale, and mind it, 4/5 calls that I received on day 1 were from fraudsters. Some were ladies too. From what info I have gathered till now, scammers are earning in lakhs per month, so the number of such people is also increasing everyday. This is going in the same direction as Jamtara fraud. Mid aged uncles would think they know enough about tech and lose their money. Olx in this matter is issuing notifications saying "Do not scan any kind of QR code" and they are also removing suspicious accounts. But this surely ain't enough. I need people to come along with me to fight this. Surely we can't just eliminate the fraudsters on our own, but believe me, identifying the shithhead scammers is easy, we surely can "frustrate the attacker"-as we say in information security. I was in Karnataka while doing my initial investigation, and could easily identify that fraudsters were calling from somewhere in northern India. My point here being - Those good for nothing a-holes cheating honest people for lakhs is not what I can tolerate. I see people everyday that very easily fall prey to this even after multiple warnings. Please join me in forcing these people outta this fraud. Lots of people bombarding the fraudsters by only giving a few minutes of their day is surely gonna drive them crazy. Let's break their chain. Here's a breif from Delhi Cyber Cell website -
OLX/QR CODE FRAUDS In these frauds, a person (fraudster) usually posing as an Army/Paramilitary personnel, contacts the person who is trying to sell a product on websites or apps such as OLX, Quikr, etc. and agrees to pay the asked price for the said good. The fraudster claims that he is posted in some inaccessible area of the country and hence, can neither come to take the physical delivery, nor can he pay the money in cash and hence, needs to transfer the money online. After striking a deal, he then sends a fake screenshot (generated using PayTM Spoof App or similar Apps) to the seller purporting to show that the said amount has been transferred to the seller’s PayTM account. However, when the seller claims that the money has not been received, the fraudster claims that there is some technical issue and then sends a QR code to the victim. He guides the victim through the process and makes him/her upload the said screenshot using Google Pay. As soon as the victim uploads the screenshot and enters the UPI Pin on Google Pay, money, instead of being credited, gets debited from the account of the victim. When the victim brings this up with the fraudster, he claims that this was a mistake and that now he is sending a QR code for twice the amount (to account for the money that has been mistakenly debited from the victim’s account) and as soon as the victim scans the QR code, the amount again gets debited from his/her account. The fraudster repeats this exercise as many times as he can, with the victim and then cuts the connection. In this way, the victim ends up losing several thousand or even lakhs of rupees while trying to sell a product online on OLX/Quikr, etc.
Which means they are exploiting the loophole where the target just scans the QR code which redirects them to giving a debit command from their own UPI. So this is not limited to OLX, but any platform that would use UPI. UPI interface is regulated by RBI, we need to inform them of the issue if they haven't heard already. India is in this phase of digitalization, if we could build a community that can act as "cyber vigilantes", there would be lot less mess and chaos in the process. Please feel free to join me or correct me if you feel I'm wrong somewhere. I hope we could do something that cyber cells with limited personnel are unable to on their own. Thank You, I'll be waiting for your responses.

Paytm Fires Back at Google for Removing its App From the Play Store
In a surprise move, Google removed popular payments app Paytm from the Play Store on Friday. While the app got reinstated on the same day, Paytm published a blog post this weekend explaining its version of the whole app takedown situation. In its blog post, Paytm says the company was forced to comply with Google’s order to remove UPI cashback offer and scratch cards to be back on the Play Store. The company went on to say that all Indian internet companies will be familiar with such situations due to ‘similar arm-twisting’ and ‘fear of Google’s dominance’. According to Paytm, the incident started on September 11 when it launched a campaign dubbed ‘Paytm Cricket League’. Paytm Cricket League lets users collect stickers and scratch cards for earning UPI cashback. The company alleges that Google de-listed Paytm without even offering the company a chance to respond. Paytm claims to have received an email on September 18 at 11:30 AM informing the takedown. “Your app contains content that doesn’t comply with the Gambling policy as it offers games with “loyalty” (e.g. engagement or activity) points that (1) are accrued or accelerated via real-money purchases which (2) can be exchanged for items or prizes of real-world monetary value,” reads the email. Paytm believes its UPI cashback & scratch cards campaign doesn’t violate Google’s guidelines. The company mentions that driving traffic or promoting fantasy sports is not gambling. Moreover, the firm points out that Google runs similar campaigns such as ‘Tez Shots’ on Google Pay. Google has responded to this blog post saying cashback and vouchers don’t result in a ban. “Offering cashbacks and vouchers alone do not constitute a violation of our Google Play gambling policies. Last week we reiterated our Play Store gambling policies. Our policies don’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting, including daily fantasy sports in India,” said a Google spokesperson. Paytm blog
🇨🇦 Oh, Canada 🇨🇦 | Here's 7 Cash Back Apps For Canadians
sup canada Y'all get left out quite a bit when it comes to beermoney. I've recently begun focusing on cash back opportunities more than anything else, and after each post the most common question I get is if it's available outside of the US. Since most cash back apps aren't available outside of the US, I've decided to make this dedicated post for apps that work for Canadians. Do note that many of these apps won't work in the US. Having said all that, let's get into it.
7 Cash Back Apps for Canadians
All of the apps on this list are designed to reward you for your purchases, in one way or another. Here they are, in hardly any particular order.
It feels like it would be a sin to not put Drop right at the top of this list. While Drop is talked about quite often on this sub, many people might not realize the Drop is actually a Canadian company based in Toronto, and some of the best offers on Drop are only available to Canadians. The way drop works is simple -- you link a bank account (credit/debit card) and when you spend with your linked card at various brands, you'll earn drop points. When you originally sign up you'll be presented with a list of brands to pick from, and every time you spend there, you'll earn points (usually 0.2%-2%, depending on the brand). I'm not familiar with all of the brands offered to Canada besides McDonalds and Tim Horton's, so if anyone from Canada signs up, please leave a comment with the current options and I'll update. In addition to this, there are several offers in-app to earn cash back from your purchases or trial signups. They do also have a referral system and sign up bonus. For each friend you refer (signs up and links a card) you'll earn earn 5,000 drop points ($5). They recently actually nerfed this so that in order to cash out for a gift card worth less than $30, you must first make a purchase or complete an offer in the app. This isn't terrible, since there are plenty of cheap/easy ways to make it work (some of which won't actually cost you anything), but this silent change is absolutely not appreciated. If anyone wants my ref code is "fish". Just note that if you're signing up just to cash out for a $5 gift card, you won't be able to do that anymore.
Paymi is very similar to Drop in the sense that you'll be able to link your credit card and automatically earn cash back at various brands across Canada. If anything, Paymi is a better version of Drop because of the retailers they offer. The process is simple: Sign up and link your debit/credit card (CIBC cards get a bonus! More on that below), spend at one of the national brands they offer, receive cash back automatically. Once you have earned cash back, you'll be able to withdraw it directly to your bank account through an Interac e-Transfer. Note: There is a transfer fee of $1.50 for any withdrawals worth less than $25. If you use a CIBC card, you'll earn double the cash back. They have partnered with CIBC to increase the bonus for these transactions. Sweet bonus that makes this better or CIBC customers. Do note that there are some cards that have been excluded from earning double cash back. You can read them in the very bottom question from their FAQ page. They also do have a referral system! For each friend you refer you'll get a $5.00 bonus. I'm unaware if there is a sign up bonus as well. If you'd like you can enter the code, "faycalonfut" as your referrer. Here are all of the national brands that you'll earn cash back at as of posting:
Indigo 2%
Kiehl’s 5%
American Eagle 3%
Urban Planet 5%
Staples 1%
PetValu 2%
Browns 5%
J.CREW 5%
Spin/CO 2%
Bath & Beyond 1%
Mary Browns 1%
Burger King 1%
Leon’s 1%
Marks 1%
SportChek 1%
Wine Online 5%
It might be because I'm American that this list doesn't look amazing (because I don't know all of the brands offered here), but objectively this list has actually gotten worse over time. Staples is the most recent addition per their twitter, but Lowe's is not on this list anymore, even though it's plastered all over their website. Also SavvyNewCanadians has a list of their partners and there are some names certainly missing, including: Lululemon, Zara, Lowe's, Walmart, Starbucks, Netflix, Spotify, Hudson's Bay, Old Navy, and Sephora, among others. I will say, though, that Staples, BB&B, Burger King, and Mary Brown's looks pretty good, still. Also I hear Urban Planet is popular in Canada, so I'm sure people will like that too.
Butter is a service that allows you to track your ongoing subscription services while earning cash back from them 100% passively. When you sign up for Butter, you'll link your bank account/cards and it will automatically help you track your subscriptions (think Netflix, Dropbox... almost anything, really) by telling you how much you're spending on each. This actually seems like something I could really benefit from, because I just recently discovered a subscription that I totally didn't realize I was paying for for the last 6+ months. You'll also earn 1% cash back from each subscription Butter tracks. I would provide a list of the subscriptions that you can earn cash back, but according to butter, the "list is in the 1000s." You'll earn your cash back automatically by Interac e-Transfer once your cash back balance is over $25. $25 is a steep minimum, but if you're someone who either has a lot of subscriptions or has some expensive qualifying subscriptions, it might not take too long to reach the minimum. Since I'm not Canadian, my experience with Butter is very limited. You can read more about how cash back works in their help threads here.
UPDATE:tired8281 has informed me of a 'convenience fee' that applies to bills that are paid with a debit/credit card through PayTM. Most people will likely pay bills with a bank account, which will incur no fees, making this solely a money maker. If you're going to pay with a credit/debit card, inform yourself of their fees here. PayTM Canada is probably the most interesting entry in this thread. Unlike Drop, Paymi, and Butter, PayTM rewards you for paying your bills. So basically you'll shop anywhere and spend on a credit card (earning potential cash back w/ Drop, Paymi, and Butter), and PayTM rewards you for paying your credit card bill. It's like stacking cash back in a way that I've never seen before. You'll earn rewards points/loyalty at the place your spending, cash back from the passive apps, potential rebates from the rebate apps (Caddle, Checkout 51, and rebate sites) below, credit card benefits, and now cash back on paying your bills for your card. Here's how PayTM Canada works:
Pay bills
Earn Paytm Points
Redeem your Paytm Points for rewards in the app
You'll be able to redeem for just about any gift card you can think of starting at $5. You can pay bills using PayTM Canada and you get 1 point for a payment of $1. In addition, you also get lots of bonus points. So basically if you're paying a bill worth $10,000, you'll get a free $10 gift card. I'm not sure what the process is for paying bills through PayTM, but I'm aware that it is free, so it's really just going to be free money. I asked their rep on twitter for more information about the method of cashing out because the wording on the website was confusing, and here's what they said:
When you buy/redeem gift cards using points, you can choose only from a specific combination available for that particular gift card. For example, for Best Buy you can get $10 gift card for free by using 10,000 points or you can get a $10 gift card for only $5 using 5000 points. For certain companies like Amazon, Esso, http://Hotels.com etc there are a lot more combinations available to redeem gift cards.
So basically you can cash out your points for discounts on gift cards in the case that you don't have enough to redeem as a whole. I'd love to learn more about PayTM Canada if anyone uses it so I can make the description more active.
Caddle is a rebates app that is exclusive to Canada. Here's how it works:
Download the Caddle app in the Apple or Google Play Stores, and sign up!
Browse our weekly survey and cash back opportunities, select one (or many!), and start earning.
Earn $20 (or more), select Cash Out, and we’ll mail you a cheque!
So in theory you're going to go through all of the offers in this app before shopping, select deals and products you're going to purchase for the sake of a rebate, and cash in. In reality you are probably going to go shopping, buy what you need, and then check the app retrospectively and get yourself some money. What's nice about Caddle is that you can also earn money by watching ads and completing surveys about products. What's not nice ab out Caddle is that they mail a physical cheque for payments. It seems like that's pretty inconvenient, but money is money, I guess :). They do have a referral program. I believe it is $1 for the referrer and $1 for the new user. If you're looking for a referral code, consider using code "TOM43988" for that $1 bonus. This referral code is actually Tom from ThisOnlineWorld, a blog that has assisted with the writing of this post.
Checkout 51 is one of (if not the only?) rebate app that works in both US and Canada. Checkout 51 is basically the same concept as Caddle. Same minimum cash out of $20. Same payment via cheque. Many offers will be similathe same, but you can double dip. They did just recently implement a referral system, but I don't have any referral codes for this post, so feel free to start up a referral train in the comments. There's really not much to say about Checkout 51, so if you're interested in Caddle, you should probably checkout 51 too. (pun)

Rebate Sites
There are multiple rebate websites that work in Canada. Rebate sites are sites that you will shop through and earn cash back at purchases online. They are actually really self-explanitory and (honestly) seem to be general knowledge, so I'm just going to list the options for you. I'd recommend trying them all out, but then sticking with one that you think is best, that way you won't be spreading out your cash back all over the place.
I'll be honest and say that I'm getting FOMO about not being able to use PayTM Canada, Butter, and Paymi in the US. I also really want to try Mary Brown's. I think the options for Canadians are not as bad as people tend to think. If you have any questions please feel free to comment and I'll try my best to answer questions, although I'm not from Canada.

Using new generation digital - zero balance bank accounts
# Using new generation digital - zero balance bank accounts to earn some returns. This by any means not a marketing post. I am not sure how many people here are using them new digital savings accounts that can be opened with just UIDIA Biometric author e-KYC. (Since SC kind of scrapped Aahdaar - banks are using different ways to offers these zero balance accounts). I am using 5 such accounts and they do offer a great interest rate on the savings account. Until recently - this rate was beating FDs in all the aspects. Yes, it's a great way to earn some returns (when strictly compared with FD). I will just present a small summary here of what I have witnessed & earned in the past couple of years. I am talking about below accounts. All interest rates are per annum on the savings account 1) Airtel Payments bank - Until March 2018 - they were offering 7.25 % per annum - Internet paid monthly. - Now they are offering 4% - 100K is limit of max deposit - Virtual debit card available 2) Digi Bank (My favorite in this segment) - Initial 100K gets 6% (till last year twas 7%) - 100K to 200K gets 7% - 200K + earns 5% - Physical debit card with 10 free withdrawals per month on any ATM (until Aug 18 it was unlimited withdrawal. No kidding) - Net banking available, App banking available - UNLIMITED FREE IMPS/NEFT/RTGS 3) Kotak 811 - Initial 100K gets 5% - 100K + amount get 6% - Virtual debit card available - Net banking available, App banking available - UNLIMITED FREE IMPS/NEFT/RTGS - Cheque book available on request 4) Axis ASAP - Any amount above 10K gets converted into flexible FDs on a daily basis - FDs get 7.3 % rate. Flexible FDs are created/broken as per outgoing funds needs - Just read their TnC to understand how the whole account works. - Virtual debit card available - Net banking available, App banking available - UNLIMITED FREE IMPS/NEFT/RTGS - Cheque book available on request - Dedicated FD earns as high as 7.5 % ( and 8.2 % for Senior Citizen) 5) Paytm Payments bank - Flat 4% - 100 K deposit limit - Just using this - as I am using paytm wallet a lot. - Virtual debit card available - UNLIMITED FREE IMPS Cons- - Everything is online - People comfortable with regular banking may find it difficult to adopt Final thoughts - I think the biggest advantage is ZERO balance and Unlimited transfers. Plus all of these apps have BHIM UPI interface built in. And UPI is free (as of now) for individuals Since the money lies in saving mode- it can be moved around anywhere. Moving money around is very easy. I did my detailed study before opening each of these accounts and kept them ZERO for more than a quarter straight. NO strings attached. These are really NO MIN BALANCE accounts. Most of us work very hard for the money. FDs are safest bate one can go for in an investment. But instead of going for FD - a lot of these accounts makes sense (at least to me). All in all - these banks can definitely be alternative your traditional bank accounts. Just my two cents.

Sites to Avoid: Definitely DO NOT post these.
✖ Earnsanity — Shady owner, sketchy site. Held giveaway and then refunded the prizes after it was over. History of scamming many others. AVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCAMMED. ✖ Paidverts — Shady owner, sketchy site. Keeps doing debt swaps (cash to BAP). Do not post. ✖ Neobux — It isn’t really a scam, but they operate as a pyramid scheme. There’s money to be made online, but it’s definitely not there. ✖ MarketGlory — It does pay out, but the pay is absolutely ridiculous. The only way to make a decent amount of money is to have a lot of referrals, and referral whoring on this subreddit WILL result in a permanent ban. ✖ MindSumo — Not actually a /beermoney site. It’s only spam in this sub. ✖ G2A — Scam/sells stolen keys. ✖ Robinhood — This is spammed on our sub constantly. ✖ Quickthoughts — Many reports of people being banned when trying to withdraw as of 10/2018. Do your due diligence before possibly wasting your time on this app. ✖ Sites with $100+ minimum — These sites usually offer higher than normal payments for simple tasks, with a high minimum to cash out. They are always scams. ✖ Generic news sites that pay you ridiculous amounts to read an article (two euros??) — Common sense should take care of this, but in case it doesn’t, it’s always a scam. The site is usually hosted somewhere in Eastern Europe, and you will never get paid. ✖ Free bitcoin sites/"faucets" (THIS INCLUDES QOINPRO) — This is not referring to those video-viewing/task sites (although they’re still paying fragments of a penny). I’m talking about sites that give you 0.000001BTC to fill a captcha (freebitco.in, dailybitcoins). Admittedly many beermoney sites pay low, but don’t even bother with these. Also: Bitcoin mining is NO LONGER PROFITABLE. If you're really so keen on getting bitcoins, doing so through an exchange is your best option. Here are a few more scam sites and sketchy sites.
